FORD GT

FORD GT, the car that the company built to celebrate its 100 years.

The 2005 Ford GT is a supercar that pays tribute to the legendary Ford GT40 of the 1960s, known for its multiple victories at Le Mans. This modern reinterpretation blends retro styling with advanced technology, capturing the essence of the original while offering modern performance and amenities.

Winning 4 consecutive times the 24 Hours of Le Mans made the GT40 a true legend. And when Ford Motor Company celebrated its first 100 years it decided to revive it, without imagining that they would create a true thoroughbred with the latest technology available but with the same sporting spirit of the sixties. This is how the Ford GT was born.

The concept car first appeared in January 2002 at the Detroit Auto Show and drove everyone crazy. William Ford, then president of the company, said: “It must be the flagship car to celebrate our 100 years, we have to make it”. The design team, led by Camilo Pardo, had to fully develop it in just 15 months. The premise was to maintain the original design and spirit of the GT40, but the difficulty lay in transforming a 1960s racing car into a street sport supercar in line with new technologies and advances in aerodynamics and safety. The design of the car was carried out with computational fluid dynamics programs. To maintain secrecy, all of this was done in a satellite studio outside the Ford Design Center.
