Lewis Hamilton Dominates Silverstone

Lewis Hamilton claims record-breaking ninth British Grand Prix victory at Silverstone

In a thrilling race at Silverstone, Lewis Hamilton secured his long-awaited and record-breaking ninth British Grand Prix victory, holding off a strong challenge from Lando Norris.

The race began with pole-sitter George Russell leading Hamilton. An exciting battle soon unfolded between the two Mercedes cars and the McLaren duo of Norris and Oscar Piastri, amidst changing weather conditions.

As the field switched to intermediate tires after the opening phase, the lead changed hands. The skies eventually cleared, and Hamilton took advantage by pitting for slicks one lap before Norris, who also faced a slow pit stop, allowing Hamilton to take the lead.

Russell retired with a water system issue, and Max Verstappen claimed P2 from Norris in the latter stages. Despite Verstappen’s increasing speed on hard tires, he could not challenge Hamilton for the lead, finishing P2 for Red Bull. Norris completed the podium in third.

Piastri finished fourth, followed by Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz in fifth and an impressive Nico Hulkenberg in sixth for Haas. Aston Martin had a better weekend, with Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso finishing seventh and eighth, respectively. Alex Albon scored two valuable points for Williams in ninth.

Yuki Tsunoda rounded out the top ten for RB, with Logan Sargeant just missing out for Williams in P11. Haas’s Kevin Magnussen finished P12, followed by RB’s Daniel Ricciardo in P13. Charles Leclerc had a disappointing outcome, making early gains but slipping back after an early switch to intermediate tires, eventually crossing the line in P14.

The next stop on the 2024 F1 calendar is the Hungarian Grand Prix, with the paddock heading to the Hungaroring over the weekend of July 19-21.
