Rovanpera Shines at Rally Poland

Kalle Rovanpera achieved one of the best victories of his career in the World Rally Championship in Poland, despite limited preparation as a last-minute replacement for his teammate Sébastien Ogier.

Rovanpera and his co-driver Jonne Halttunen won eight of the 19 gravel stages, finishing +28.3 seconds ahead of their Toyota teammates Elfyn Evans and Scott Martin. Adrien Fourmaux and Alex Coria from M-Sport secured third place [+42.3s].

 A Challenging Start

Rovanpera, the reigning world champion, was called to Poland after Ogier withdrew due to an accident during reconnaissance. He traveled without preparation and was allowed to do a rushed reconnaissance of the stages just before the start.

 Turning Point

Despite initial frustration, Rovanpera began to excel in the second passes through the stages. By the end of Friday, he was only 1.8s behind leader Andreas Mikkelsen of Hyundai.

 Incidents and Issues

The rally was affected by spectator control issues, forcing organizers to cancel several stages. The police intervened on Saturday, managing to resolve the problem and allowing for a smoother development.

Dominance in the Final Stage

Rovanpera took the lead in stage 10 and won six of the next seven stages. Despite challenges in the final stages, he secured an impressive second victory of the year.

 Challenges and Surprises

Mikkelsen, who was leading in his first gravel outing with a Rally1 car, suffered an incident that dropped him to sixth place. Evans moved up to second place, maintaining it until the end. Fourmaux completed the podium, securing his third third-place finish in the WRC.

 Championship Standings

Thierry Neuville, the championship leader, finished fourth overall. Hyundai opted to withdraw Ott Tanak to focus on the Super Sunday points, a wise decision that left him 21 points behind Neuville.

Rovanpera once again demonstrated his ability to overcome adversity, solidifying himself as one of the most promising drivers in the WRC.
