RACING HERITAGE
Developed specifically for DTM homologation, the Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 Evolution I marked the brand’s decisive return to top-level touring car competition during one of the most competitive eras in motorsport history. Introduced at the Geneva Motor Show, it was engineered with a clear objective: transform Mercedes-Benz engineering excellence into on-track success.
Its racing pedigree was evident even before official DTM domination. At the 1984 Nürburgring “Race of Champions,” a young Ayrton Senna showcased the car’s potential, signaling the beginning of a legacy that would redefine Mercedes-Benz’s presence in touring car racing.

A Factory AMG Exception
While 502 Evolution I units were produced in 1989, only a very limited number left the factory equipped with the AMG Power Pack, placing these cars in a significantly rarer and more desirable category within the Evolution lineage.
This factory-sanctioned AMG configuration elevates the Evolution I beyond a standard homologation model, transforming it into a collector-grade specification that combines Motorsport intent with AMG-enhanced performance and exclusivity.

AMG Enhanced Cosworth Engineering
Power comes from the Cosworth-developed 2.5-liter, 16-valve engine, a high-revving unit chosen for its compact design and racing durability. In AMG Power Pack specification, output was increased to approximately 225 horsepower, sharpening throttle response and performance without compromising reliability.
The result is an engine that delivers urgency and character, reinforcing the Evolution I’s Motorsport DNA while preserving the mechanical purity that defines Mercedes-Benz performance engineering of the era.

Subtle Aerodynamics, Serious Intent
The Evolution I’s design reflects Mercedes-Benz’s restrained yet purposeful approach to homologation. Flared wheel arches, revised bumpers, and functional aerodynamic elements were not aesthetic statements, but solutions developed to meet racing demands.
Every line serves a purpose, enhancing stability and airflow while maintaining the understated elegance that distinguishes the Evolution I from more aggressive successors like the Evolution II.

A Touring Car Environment, Intensified
Paired with the Getrag 5-speed dogleg manual gearbox, the AMG Power Pack transforms the driving experience, delivering more immediate response and a heightened sense of engagement behind the wheel.
Despite its increased urgency, the Evolution I retains balance and composure, offering a driving feel that is focused yet refined — a true touring car environment adapted for the road.

AMG Augmented Performancer
0–100 km/h in approximately 6.9 seconds
With AMG-enhanced output, the Evolution I accelerates from 0–100 km/h in approximately 6.9 seconds, reinforcing its role as a genuine homologation machine rather than a performance-themed sedan.
The increased power improves flexibility and real-world performance, ensuring that the Evolution I delivers not only historical significance, but a driving experience that remains compelling today.

The Most Desirable Evolution I Variant
Among collectors, AMG Power Pack–equipped Evolution I models sit at the very top of the hierarchy, combining low production numbers, enhanced performance, and factory-approved significance.
This specification represents the most desirable interpretation of Mercedes Benz’s first DTM homologation special a cornerstone of modern Mercedes performance history and a rare opportunity to own the very beginning of a legendary lineage.
