RENAULT 5 TURBO 2, “FAT ASS”

The Renault 5 Turbo 2, nicknamed the “Fat Ass”, was a limited edition launched in 1983 as an evolution of the original Renault 5 Turbo.
One of its most notable features were the huge stickers with the name “Turbo 2” on the sides, which visually distinguished it from the first generation. In addition, its interior was redesigned, abandoning the futuristic cabin signed by Bertone to adopt the same dashboard and seats as the Renault 5 Alpine Turbo.

Under the hood, the Turbo 2 maintained the legendary 1.4-liter turbocharged central engine that delivered 160 hp, allowing it to reach a maximum speed of over 200 km/h. Its rear-wheel drive configuration and compact chassis made it a real rocket for the streets.

Initially conceived to be homologated in the Group B rally category, the Renault 5 Turbo 2 was never able to officially compete due to the ban on this group in 1986 due to its high danger. However, some units were adapted for competition by private teams, such as the one prepared.

With its striking design and surprising features for the time, the Renault 5 Turbo 2 became a cult icon and one of the most coveted hot hatches of the 80s and is today sought after by many collectors around the world.
